BGMS library

About the library

All students who sign up to the Luthiers Club can borrow* from the BGMS library collection of books, magazines, jigs, templates and more. The library is part of our commitment to shared learning, craftsmanship, and community.

* See information below on borrowing conditions.

  • The library collection includes hundreds of books and magazines on guitar making, as well as other items such as templates, jigs, tools and audio equipment. You can search the catalogue using the links in the section above.

  • Students and staff can take home general collection items for a borrowing period of three weeks. Reserve collection items can be borrowed for use in the workshop but must not leave the premises.

  • The library includes multiple collections such as the general, reserve, and magazine collections. The library uses a custom subject classification system. For more information see signage in the library.

  • Your instructor can check items out for you.

  • General collection items have a loan period of three weeks. You will receive an email reminder 24 hours before your item is due and 24 hours after any unreturned items become overdue.

  • Students must treat borrowed items with respect and return them in good condition. Late fees apply to items not returned on time - see ‘What if items are late, lost or damaged?’.

  • Late items incur fees of $10/week. Items are considered lost when a month overdue and incur a $200 fee unless otherwise stated. This fee reflects the many rare books in our library. If items are significantly damaged (i.e. needing repair for further use, or not able to be used due to damage) this fee may also apply.

  • Leave your returned items in the returns area of the library and let your instructor know you have returned an item. BGMS instructors are responsible for checking in any returns before they leave the school.

  • Only instructors are able to renew items - talk to your instructor if you need to renew your borrowed items.

  • Yes! Our library gratefully receives donations on the topics of lutherie, woodworking, acoustics, musicianship, design inspiration or anything else helpful to our student body. Talk to your instructor about donating your item.
